Preparations are in full swing for the Extended Council 2024 at Centro Ad Gentes, Nemi, Italy. The General Council, together with the ICC and Sr. Barbara, Secretary of the Extended Council, are working hand in hand to ensure everything is ready. From organizing essential materials to setting up the meeting hall and preparing the rooms, the team is collaborating efficiently to create a well-prepared and welcoming environment for the upcoming event.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF ‘CENTRO AD GENTES’

Centro Ad Gentes, a Conference & Retreat Center, belongs to the Society of the Divine Word. Nestled in the charming village of Nemi, in the Alban Hills about 35 kilometers from Rome, the center provides a tranquil environment for spiritual reflection and gatherings. The center, situated 600 meters above sea level, enjoys the unique comfort of a refreshing climate and a scenic view of the Nemi Lake.

A stay at Centro Ad Gentes allows one to experience the natural beauty of Lake Nemi, a volcanic crater lake known for its serene atmosphere. It is called "Lago di Nemi" in Italian. The lake, named after the nearby town of Nemi which is famous for its strawberry festival, is surrounded by lush forests and steep cliffs. The lake has a rich history rooted in Roman mythology. In ancient times, it was a sacred site dedicated to the goddess Diana.

The lake is also famous for the discovery of two massive Roman ships built by Emperor Caligula, which were later recovered and studied. Today, the lake is a popular spot for tourists and nature lovers, offering a quiet retreat from the busy city life of Rome.
